6 days Days Tour

Desert National Park

Tour Highlights

  • Good birding location for desert birding
  • Stay in good property
  • Led by expert local naturalist guides

Summary

Despite being one of the world’s smaller deserts, the Thar desert contains the second-largest national park in India, the Desert National Park.
For most enthusiasts of the natural world, Desert National Park, or DNP, is the one and only place of its kind on the Indian subcontinent. The area is located in the country’s extremely dry and hot zone with little rainfall.
Passage migrants begin to arrive here in early September. Some choose to remain, while others depart and travel back by the same path by February. Amazingly, they carry out this annual ritual.
Currently, the Great Indian Bustard (GIB), which is critically endangered worldwide, has its greatest chance of survival at DNP. Approximately 45 kilometres separate DNP from Jaisalmer, the Golden City, in the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan.
